Job Summary
The Senior Buyer for Apparel is responsible for driving category performance by sourcing, selecting, and purchasing apparel products that align with the company’s brand, market strategy, and customer needs. This role involves developing and managing supplier relationships, analyzing market trends, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to ensure a competitive product offering that meets cruise line needs.
Key Responsibilities:
Category Management:
- Develop and execute buying strategies for the apparel and logowear category, including assortment planning and pricing strategies.
- Analyze sales data, cruise line guest preferences, and market trends to identify opportunities for growth.
Supplier Relations and Negotiations:
- Source and select suppliers that meet quality, cost, and delivery requirements.
- Negotiate contracts, terms, and pricing to optimize margins and ensure on-time product availability.
- Maintain strong, collaborative relationships with key vendors and manufacturers.
Product Selection and Development:
- Evaluate and select apparel products aligned with the specific cruise line image and customer expectations.
- Work closely with cruise line executives and product development teams to ensure alignment.
Inventory and Financial Management:
- Monitor inventory levels to ensure optimal stock without overstocking or understocking.
- Manage budgets, margins, and category profitability, delivering financial targets.
- Collaborate with planning teams to forecast demand and manage replenishment strategies.
Collaboration and Communication:
- Partner with marketing teams to create promotional plans that drive category sales.
- Work with supply chain teams to ensure efficient logistics and on-time delivery.
- Provide regular reporting on category performance and insights to senior leadership.
Market and Competitor Analysis:
- Stay updated on industry trends, customer preferences, and competitor strategies.
- Conduct market visits and attend trade shows to identify emerging trends and new opportunities.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Fashion Merchandising, or a related field; advanced degree preferred.
- 7+ years of experience in buying or merchandising, with a focus on apparel and or travel retail.
- Strong analytical and financial acumen, with experience managing budgets and P&L.
- Proven negotiation skills and experience working with global suppliers.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate across teams and with vendors.
- Proficiency in retail management systems and analytics tools.
- Ability to travel domestically and internationally as needed.
