Hayes Locums is seeking a Senior Systems Administrator to join our cloud-native IT team. This role is critical in ensuring the stability, performance, and scalability of our systems infrastructure. The ideal candidate will be an experienced systems professional who excels in automation, monitoring, and process optimization, and who is ready to help drive maturity across systems operations and security.
While your initial focus will be on stabilizing and advancing systems operations and observability, the role is designed to progressively expand into security operations—supporting our cybersecurity team in maturing operational security practices. This role will also contribute to CI/CD automation in support of application delivery.
In this role, you will collaborate with cross-functional teams including System Engineering, DevOps, Application Development, and Cybersecurity.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
· Cloud Infrastructure Management & Optimization: Maintain and enhance our multicloud environment, predominantly hosted in Microsoft Azure with limited services in AWS. Administer and optimize Windows-based systems while supporting Linux workloads, containerized applications, and serverless architectures.
· Automation & Shift-Left Enablement: Design and maintain automation solutions (PowerShell, Python, Bash) to streamline operational workflows, reduce manual intervention, and shift repetitive tasks earlier in the support lifecycle through improved tooling and process efficiency.
· Observability & Incident Response: Build and maintain a mature observability and alerting stack using New Relic, Azure Monitor, and LogicMonitor, with PagerDuty integration for incident notifications. Ensure issues are identified and addressed proactively—before they impact business users or clients
· Operational Maturity: Drive systems operations maturity by implementing sustainable practices, reducing dependency from outside teams, and ensuring operational teams handle workloads effectively and autonomously.
· Security Operations Collaboration: Support the Cybersecurity team in advancing our mature security posture. Contribute to vulnerability remediation efforts and security tooling initiatives using platforms such as CrowdStrike, Qualys, Abnormal Security, Arctic Wolf, Zscaler, Mimecast, Palo Alto, and Varonis.
· CI/CD Pipeline Support: Collaborate with DevOps and AppDev teams to further automate the application deployment lifecycle using Azure DevOps, SonarQube, Qualys, and BlazeMeter, driving toward a fully automated and secure pipeline.
· Backup & Recovery Oversight: Maintain robust backup and disaster recovery solutions to ensure business continuity and data integrity.
· Process Documentation: Develop and maintain clear documentation of configurations, procedures, and standard operating processes to support audits, training, and team alignment.
