XN is hiring its first Head of Infrastructure to lead the firm’s technology function – spanning infrastructure, cybersecurity, day-to-day IT operations, and AI rollouts.
This is a hands-on leadership role focused on ensuring our technology environment is fast, reliable, secure, and aligned with business needs. As the technology landscape has drastically and quickly evolved over the last few years, XN is looking to re-evaluate its infrastructure and take on a leader with high curiosity and obsession with new technologies. The goal is for our technology backbone to allow for and encourage quick iterations of solutions for our business functions while maintaining high levels of security. You will be responsible for implementing this vision and bringing a fresh perspective. Additionally, your responsibilities will include partnering with our managed service provider to deliver seamless IT support to the team.
You’ll work closely with senior leadership, and team leads across the business to identify needs, troubleshoot issues, and drive meaningful improvements. This is not a vendor-management role – we’re looking for a strategic doer who’s excited to roll up their sleeves and own our technology backbone.
4 days in-office, 1 day work-from-home / week.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Re-imagining and Maintaining Core Infrastructure and IT Operations
- Set up a clear action plan to modernize our infrastructure with a particular emphasis on encouraging company developers and business function employees to quickly implement forward-looking solutions
- Own and manage all IT related functions for both the New York and San Francisco offices, including outsourced MSP’s.
- Supervise, train and delegate to our on-site MSP technician, troubleshoot issues proactively, and jointly manage infrastructure improvement projects
- Ensure all XN employees receive responsive, high-quality day-to-day IT support
- Oversee device management, remote access protocols, network reliability, license management, and user provisioning
- Provide quarterly IT plans and initiatives to be shared with management with frequent updates
- Stay up to date on new state of the art solutions and products to continually modernize our infrastructure
2. Own Cybersecurity, Governance, and Risk Management
- Maintain and update the firm’s cybersecurity policies, controls, and risk protocols
- Ensure secure configuration of devices, networks, and systems—including access control, endpoint protection, encryption, and vendor security
- Work with legal and compliance to integrate necessary checks into systems from day one—not as an afterthought
- Lead or participate in incident response, disaster recovery planning, and business continuity initiatives
- Oversee digital recordkeeping to support regulatory and audit readiness
- Assess new tools (especially AI) for policy alignment and industry best practices before rollout
3. Support AI and Development Initiatives (in Partnership with Other Teams)
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders to identify infrastructure needs related to AI adoption and automation
- Partner on evaluations and rollouts of GenAI tools, copilots, and task-specific automation—ensuring systems are stable, secure, and integrated
- Contribute to internal trainings and documentation around responsible AI use, in coordination with business and compliance leads
- Stay current on best practices around infrastructure for AI and modern software tools
Qualifications and Skills:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field
- 8+ years of experience in technology roles – ideally in fast-paced, high-performance environments
- Proven track record of owning end-to-end implementation of technology solutions, from planning through execution and support
- Deep experience with modern software development, systems architecture, cloud platforms, database management, and cybersecurity practices
- Strong technical foundation in data systems – including acquisition, transformation, storage, distributed processing, and high availability
- Familiarity with statistics, machine learning, and operationalizing AI or data science tools is a plus
- Clear understanding of cybersecurity principles and how to safeguard sensitive financial data; awareness of hedge fund–relevant compliance and regulatory frameworks
- Excellent communication skills – able to convey complex technical topics in plain language and build support for new ideas across non-technical teams
- Curious, hands-on, and comfortable driving innovation while rolling up your sleeves
- Passionate about staying ahead of technology trends, especially those shaping the future of investment workflows
Salary Range: $200,000-400,000 + bonus.
