Our client is a dynamic and growing short-line railroad operator and manufacturer of freight locomotives with operations across multiple states and Canada, located in Knoxville, Tennessee. This is a unique opportunity to take ownership of their overall IT operations, bringing previously outsourced responsibilities in-house to ensure seamless technology support for their four short-line railroads, a locomotive manufacturing facility, and an affiliated Canadian entity. The IT Administrator will be the backbone of the organization’s technology operations, playing a critical role in ensuring system reliability, cybersecurity, and empowering users.
The IT Administrator role will be based in Knoxville, Tennessee and will be responsible for a wide range of critical functions, including but not limited to:
- System & Network Management: Managing and maintaining servers, network infrastructure (LAN/WAN, VPN, firewalls), Office365, and email systems, ensuring high availability and top-notch performance.
- User Support: Serving as the primary point of contact for all IT support, troubleshooting hardware, software, and connectivity issues for users across all locations (both remotely and on-site).
- Security Enforcement: Protecting valuable data and intellectual property by enforcing robust security policies, conducting regular reviews, and managing patch updates and virus protection.
- Project Leadership: Playing a key role in IT projects such as system upgrades, new software rollouts (including an upcoming Acumatica implementation), and hardware refreshes. This also involves vital documentation of all IT processes.
- Disaster Recovery: Maintaining and testing backup systems and disaster recovery plans to ensure quick responses to any system outages.
- Vendor & Asset Management: Overseeing IT hardware and software inventory, managing vendor relationships, and ensuring all software licenses are compliant.
The ideal candidate for the IT Administrator position should have:
- Proven experience in IT administration and support.
- Strong knowledge of server, network, and cybersecurity best practices.
- Experience with Office365 and email system management.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot a wide range of IT issues.
- The qualities of a self-starter who can work independently and manage multiple priorities.
- Willingness and availability to travel periodically within the United States and Canada.
- Experience with or the ability to quickly learn systems like Misys, Field Squared, Sage 100, Solidworks, Onshape, CORE, and Acumatica.
