(Anticipated Hiring Range $26.29 - $27.63/hourly)
Positions assigned to this class support day-to-day network operations, including installation, configuration, troubleshooting, and maintenance of network hardware and software. Provide support and contribute to network infrastructure projects.
The following is intended to describe core work functions of this classification. While the level and broad nature of essential duties may not change, specific work tasks may vary over time depending on the City’s needs.
- Maintain network environments, including hardware, software, and connectivity, ensuring seamless integration and ongoing reliability.
- Install, configures, test and documents the equipment/network systems according to the design and specifications.
- Collaborate with users and stakeholders to assess needs and translate them into technical solutions.
- Ensure compliance with industry regulations, internal policies, and security standards.
- Monitor network performance and proactively identify areas for improvement.
- Troubleshoot and resolve network issues, minimizing downtime and service disruptions.
- Plan and help execute upgrades, updates and patches to network equipment and systems to maintain performance and security.
- Provide technical support, respond to work orders and tickets from the end users, review and help resolve reported network problems.
- Configure firewall security settings and performance of day-to-day networking tasks.
- Participate in on-call rotation.
- Support the city's policies, goals, and objectives and work with management and other staff to ethically achieve such goals and objectives; ensure compliance with safety procedures.

Education and Experience
Graduation from a college or university accredited by an agency recognized by the U.S. Secretary of Education or Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) with an Associate’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field, and three (3) years of paid full-time experience as a Network Technician or in a similar IT support or networking role, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Must possess a CompTIA Network+ certification at the time of appointment.Knowledge
- Knowledgeable in both wired and wireless networking technologies.
- Maintaining secure and efficient network environments.
- Able to monitor, analyze, and optimize network performance to ensure reliability and efficiency.
- Problem-solving strategies for diagnosing and resolving system and network issues.
- Support in planning and executing upgrades to hardware, software, and systems to maintain optimal performance.
- Telecom room management continued maintenance including cable management, patch panels, fiber optics, & copper cabling.
Skills
- Network protocols, including TCP/IP, DNS, and DHCP.
- Configuring and managing network devices such as routers and switches.
- Troubleshooting skills with a track record of resolving network issues efficiently.
- Network management and diagnostic tools such as Wireshark, Ping, and Traceroute.
- Network security practices, including VPNs, and intrusion detection/prevention systems (IDS/IPS).
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively in team environments and work independently.
- Assessing and prioritizing multiple tasks, projects, and demands.
- Establishing and maintaining cooperative working relationships with vendors, coworkers, and other individuals, communicating clearly and concisely.
Pre-employment Requirements
Candidates who are selected for appointment may be required to be fingerprinted, if 18 or older; successfully complete a background investigation, employment verification and may be subject to a drug/alcohol test, or medical evaluation. Candidates who are appointed will be required to possess a valid driver’s license to operate a vehicle in Arizona or meet the transportation needs of the position.
License/Certification
Must pass a CJIS level D compliance test after hire.
Physical Demands and Working Environment
Work is performed in a standard office environment with some stooping, bending, stretching, standing, frequent sitting, and continuous operation of a personal computer. Physical dexterity is required to work in confined spaces and use precision tools and equipment; requires vision capacity to perform fine calibrations. May be required to perform a full range of motion with moving, lifting and/or carrying items weighing up to 25 pounds.
