Overview
The System Administrator is responsible for maintaining and administering critical computer systems and related computing environments, ensuring high availability, security, and compliance across all systems and locations. This role serves as the primary technical resource for IT operations, handling the full spectrum of support while managing infrastructure and security initiatives.
Responsibilities:
Support and Training:
- Provide Tier I-III local and remote support for user computers, software, hardware, and system-based issues
- Respond to helpdesk requests and handle escalations with minimal supervision
- Conduct user training sessions and security awareness programs to enhance organizational cybersecurity posture
- As team expands, transition to mentoring and developing junior analysts
Infrastructure and Deployment:
- Set up, maintain, and support all branch locations, new sites, and user environments, including hardware and software installations
- Deploy, manage, and optimize Azure cloud infrastructure and Microsoft 365 environments
- Administer Intune and Entra ID for endpoint management and identity controls
- Document system configurations, procedures, and policies to ensure clear operational guidelines and compliance with organizational standards
- Monitor system health proactively and address performance issues before they escalate
Security and Compliance:
- Conduct regular audits and benchmarks of hardware, identity controls, and software to ensure optimal performance and compliance with standards like CIS and NIST
- Perform periodic vulnerability assessments and network vulnerability scans on internal networks
- Deploy and manage security policies and configurations across all users and endpoints
- Lead security awareness initiatives for end users
Vendor and Relationship Management:
- Manage all vendor relationships, ensuring adherence to SLAs and leveraging partnerships to enhance IT services and capabilities
- Coordinate with vendors for escalations, service requests, and technical implementations
Project Management and Collaboration:
- Contribute to IT projects involving system upgrades, migrations, and the implementation of new technologies
- Participate in disaster recovery planning and conduct preparedness exercises
- Collaborate closely with the IT Manager to align IT initiatives with organizational goals and contribute to strategic planning
Preferred Qualifications:
- 3-4+ years of systems administration experience with demonstrated ability to work independently
- Strong experience with Microsoft 365 administration, Azure, Intune, Defender, and Entra ID
- Proven track record of managing infrastructure with minimal oversight
- Experience with Linux and Windows Server system administration and command-line interface for basic server management and Azure VM configuration
- Experience in creating and maintaining technical documentation and procedures
- Excellent problem-solving skills and technical judgment
- Strong communication skills with both technical and non-technical audiences
- Ability to balance immediate support needs with strategic infrastructure projects
- Scripting/automation skills (PowerShell, Python)
- Experience mentoring or training technical staff
