We are seeking a talented Senior Systems Administrator to join our team supporting a long-term program in Suffolk, VA.
Job Overview
We are looking for an experienced Senior Systems Administrator with deep expertise in Microsoft Azure cloud infrastructure and on-premises Hyper-V virtualization. The ideal candidate thrives in hybrid cloud environments, excels at automating infrastructure tasks, and is comfortable working in classified DoD environments requiring an active Secret clearance.
Key Responsibilities- Design, implement, and manage enterprise Windows Server environments (2019/2022) in both on-premises and Azure-based deployments
- Administer and optimize Hyper-V clusters, including failover clustering, live migration, and storage management
- Deploy, configure, and maintain Azure IaaS and PaaS resources (VMs, Virtual Networks, Azure AD, Azure Backup, Site Recovery, etc.)
- Manage and extend on-premises infrastructure to Azure using Azure Arc (strongly preferred)
- Implement and enforce security controls in accordance with DISA STIGs, NIST 800-53, and DoD RMF requirements
- Perform system monitoring, performance tuning, patching, and troubleshooting across hybrid environments
- Automate routine tasks using PowerShell, Azure CLI, ARM templates, Bicep, and Desired State Configuration (DSC)
- Support disaster recovery planning and execution, including Azure Site Recovery integration
- Collaborate with network, security, and application teams to deliver integrated solutions
- Document configurations, procedures, and system architectures
- Participate in on-call rotation and provide after-hours support as needed
Required Qualifications- Active Secret security clearance (or higher)
- 7+ years of progressive systems administration experience with Windows Server environments
- Strong hands-on experience with Microsoft Azure (IaaS/PaaaS) administration and architecture
- Expert-level knowledge of Hyper-V virtualization (clustering, Replica, Storage Spaces Direct a plus)
- Proficiency in PowerShell scripting and infrastructure-as-code practices
- Solid understanding of networking concepts (VLANs, VPN, routing, firewall rules) in Azure and on-premises
- Experience applying DISA STIGs and securing Windows/Azure environments
- Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
- Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively in a team environment
Preferred Qualifications (Big Plus)- Hands-on experience with Azure Arc (Arc-enabled servers, Arc-enabled SQL, Azure Arc for Kubernetes)
- Microsoft certifications: AZ-104, AZ-305, or MS-102
- Experience with Azure Monitor, Log Analytics, Sentinel, and Defender for Cloud
- Familiarity with Ansible, Terraform, or GitOps workflows
- Prior experience supporting DoD or Intelligence Community customers
- CompTIA Security+ or equivalent DoD 8570 IAT Level II certification
