PDPO (Privacy and Data Protection Office) is the organization to lead, supervise, and empower all TikTok's privacy work in an accountable and industry leading way. This team is the expert in the landscape of privacy risks and passionate about consulting across the company on implementing the proper safeguards and technical mitigations to ensure that our users’ privacy is honored across the TikTok's products and platforms.
About the role
Position Summary:
We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated individual to join our team as a Technical Privacy Investigator. In this role, you will be responsible for conducting thorough investigations and assessments to ensure compliance with privacy regulations and policies. You will leverage your technical expertise to analyze data, identify privacy risks, and recommend appropriate remedial actions. The successful candidate will have a strong understanding of privacy laws, data protection practices, and a passion for maintaining data privacy and security.
Responsibilities:
Conduct Privacy Investigations: Investigate and analyze privacy incidents, breaches, and complaints to identify the root cause, assess the impact, and determine appropriate remedial actions.
Data Analysis: Utilize technical skills and tools to analyze large datasets, logs, and system configurations to identify privacy vulnerabilities, patterns, and anomalies.
Privacy Risk Assessment: Assess privacy risks associated with systems, applications, processes, and technologies to identify potential weaknesses and recommend mitigation strategies.
Compliance Monitoring: Monitor and audit systems, databases, and processes to ensure compliance with privacy regulations, policies, and best practices.
Privacy Training and Awareness: Develop and deliver training programs to educate employees on privacy principles, regulations, and best practices to enhance privacy awareness across the organization.
Privacy Policy and Procedure Development: Collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop and implement privacy policies, procedures, and guidelines to ensure adherence to applicable privacy laws and regulations.
Incident Response: Lead and coordinate incident response activities related to privacy breaches, including containment, investigation, notification, and recovery.
Privacy Impact Assessments: Conduct privacy impact assessments for new systems, technologies, and processes to identify potential privacy risks and recommend necessary controls.
Stakeholder Collaboration: Work closely with legal, IT, compliance, and business teams to provide guidance and recommendations on privacy-related matters and ensure alignment with privacy requirements.
Stay Updated on Privacy Regulations: Keep abreast of evolving privacy laws, regulations, and industry best practices to ensure the organization's privacy program remains compliant and up to date.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
1. Bachelor's degree in computer science, information technology, or a related field.
2. Strong knowledge of privacy laws and regulations such as GDPR, CCPA, HIPAA, and other relevant privacy frameworks.
3. Demonstrated experience in conducting privacy investigations and risk assessments, preferably in a technical or IT-related field.
4. Proficiency in data analysis tools, programming languages (such as Python or R), and data visualization techniques.
5. Familiarity with network protocols, system architecture, and database structures.
6. Excellent communication skills with the ability to explain complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Preferred Qualifications:
1. Knowledge of incident response frameworks and methodologies is a plus.
Understanding of privacy by design principles and techniques.
2. Relevant certifications such as Certified Information Privacy Professional (CIPP) or Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP) are highly desirable.
3. Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with a keen attention to detail.
4. Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.

Job Information
【For Pay Transparency】Compensation Description (Annually)
The base salary range for this position in the selected city is $147200 - $269800 annually.
Compensation may vary outside of this range depending on a number of factors, including a candidate’s qualifications, skills, competencies and experience, and location. Base pay is one part of the Total Package that is provided to compensate and recognize employees for their work, and this role may be eligible for additional discretionary bonuses/incentives, and restricted stock units.
Benefits may vary depending on the nature of employment and the country work location. Employees have day one access to medical, dental, and vision insurance, a 401(k) savings plan with company match, paid parental leave, short-term and long-term disability coverage, life insurance, wellbeing benefits, among others. Employees also receive 10 paid holidays per year, 10 paid sick days per year and 17 days of Paid Personal Time (prorated upon hire with increasing accruals by tenure).
