System Administrator (Contract-to-Hire)
Location: Charlotte, NC (Hybrid – 2–3 days onsite per month but starts off fully onsite for a couple weeks of training)
Pay Rate: $45-50/hour (W2)
Conversion Salary: $90,000 to $100,000
Overview
Robert Half is partnering with a growing organization in Charlotte to hire a versatile System Administrator for a contract-to-hire opportunity. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys being a “jack-of-all-trades” in IT infrastructure, providing support across servers, networks, endpoints, security, and cloud environments. The hired candidate will help ensure the stability, security, and performance of the company’s core IT systems while contributing to ongoing modernization initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage and support Windows servers, Active Directory, Group Policy, and identity/access configurations.
- Perform daily system administration tasks including patching, monitoring, incident response, and troubleshooting.
- Administer Microsoft 365, Exchange Online, Teams, Intune/Endpoint Manager, and SharePoint environments.
- Maintain and enhance virtualization platforms (VMware or Hyper-V).
- Assist with backup/restore operations and disaster recovery planning.
- Implement security best practices across endpoints, servers, and network components.
- Partner with cross-functional teams to support application deployments, system upgrades, and infrastructure improvements.
- Document procedures, configurations, and changes to ensure knowledge continuity.
Required Skills & Experience
- 3+ years of hands-on system administration experience in an enterprise or mid-sized environment.
- Strong experience with Windows Server, Active Directory, and Microsoft 365 administration.
- Familiarity with networking fundamentals (DNS, DHCP, routing, firewalls, VPN).
- Experience with virtualization (VMware or Hyper-V).
- Knowledge of endpoint management solutions such as Intune, SCCM, or similar.
- Understanding of security practices including patch management, MFA, access management, and hardening.
- Proven ability to diagnose, troubleshoot, and resolve complex technical issues.
- Strong communication skills and ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a hybrid environment.
Nice-to-Have
- PowerShell scripting and automation experience.
- Exposure to Azure administration or cloud migration efforts.
- Familiarity with backup platforms such as Veeam, Rubrik, or similar.
- Relevant certifications (A+, Network+, Security+, MCSA, Azure Administrator, etc.).
