Details
Experience:
I work as part of a team in Information Security Third Party Assessment Services. We review the relationship that U.S. Bank has with a wide variety of vendors, what is at stake in each particular relationship and ensure that appropriate information security controls are in place to protect the company, our employees and our customers. It's a fascinating field and I get a lot of personal satisfaction in helping a business understand why they need to implement appropriate information security controls.

Primarily responsible for platform stability and availability, I also keep an eye on incidents, chronic issues and new functionality. Key objectives include security and vulnerability remediation, disaster recovery and systems infrastructure monitoring for future capacity planning.
The platform is Red Hat Linux and the application is vendor provided, primarily comprised of .cgi code and a flat-file database structure, but with bits of java/xml thrown in and some postGres SQL servers. The infrastructure spans forty plus servers homed in two data centers serving ten processing sites across the US.
The system processes business to business check payments. It supports customizations not only in the workflow but also in reporting, and offers customers a wide variety of options including fax summaries, detailed data transmission, CD/DVD with check and document imaging and a web interface to view transactions very quickly after deposit. In addition, the system supports a remote capture system which allows customers the convenience of scanning checks from their office and having them processed through the normal methodologies as though they were processed in-house.
