About
“Choose a job you love, and you will never have to work a day in your life…”
Many of us are familiar with this phrase, yet, like many others, I did not ‘choose a job’, but rather, stumbled upon it. When I found myself as a young political science graduate without a full-time position lined up, I sought the help of university career services and the next thing you know, I was hired on as a receptionist, then offered the opportunity to be trained as a career advisor. I completed a certificate, then a post-graduate diploma, and eventually a Masters in Career Education, Information and Guidance in Higher Education.
I have tried my hand in other careers, namely within the field of education, such as; working in higher education academic support, coordinating a community college department, and even teaching kindergarten (which I avow is still the most challenging position I have ever held), yet, I find myself continually returning to the sphere of careers guidance. There is something so rewarding, and inspiring, about witnessing individuals as they traverse career paths and maneuver through unfamiliar, yet exciting, terrain.
The truth is, navigating the job market can be difficult, frustrating, and at times, simply terrifying. I see my role as being, not only a coach, but equally a cheerleader. Thus, whether it is reviewing a resume, critiquing a cover letter, conducting a mock interview, imparting etiquette, alleviating concerns, or bolstering confidence, I am fervent about enriching one’s job seeking skills, so they can not only stand out, but excel, in a highly competitive environment.
