Experience:
Embarking on a new phase at Blackhawk, I carry the information security practice out of information technology and leave IT management behind. This separation of duties is good for the company and aligns with my life plan at this time to cut back on work a bit and focus on some personal goals. Love that BHCCU senior management has allowed me to continue this journey with them and leverage the collective experience and history with the CU to more fully concentrate on, and bring value to, infosec. Excellent support is in place and evolving, with hybrid and managed solutions, and other areas of risk and operations to allow this position to be filled in this way. A legacy is a team I leave behind that is smart, security hyperaware, and led by the former director of IT, now the vice president. Of course, we will still form a strong partnership as our roles meet and security work, design, and remediation occur. As hard as it is to no longer manage IT as I have done for these couple of decades, the change is refreshing as I follow this professional passion.

Blackhawk Community Credit Union
Information Security Officer
After more than two decades in information technology and security, my passion is two-pronged as as I 1) leverage a mature technology team to pursue the application of technology to accommodate and enhance business needs and solutions, and 2) grow an information and cybersecurity practice into one befitting enterprise class.
Several years ago I was very excited to move to Blackhawk, staying within the credit union industry. By joining a mature, professional IT team, I am taking on new challenges as a VP/IT, meeting business goals and objectives with technology and related tools and practices. As such, I head up both technology strategy and execution, and information security and cybersecurity, keeping a spotlight on business-driven initiatives and a top-down culture of integrated security practice and awareness.
Today I directly oversee a team consisting of a Director of Information Technology, our Business Systems Analyst, system administrators and analysts, an information security administrator, and help desk specialists/technicians.
Recent times have seen a healthy change in personnel and job alignments as well as an extensive investment in infrastructure and systems. Building for the future and for growth, the emphasis is on security; service; capacity and capability; efficiency; accountability; continuity, resiliency and recovery.

My responsibilities include most facets of day-to-day operations in our IS department. Our Novell file server and other server admin duties as systems administrator are key, as well as telecom, LAN and WAN development, conversion and management. Also, I have inherited our Y2K readiness project.

I am an addition to the growing IS staff as it is moved out from under accounting and into it's own right, reporting to a SVP. My main sphere of operations is in managing our fleet of TCP/IP-connected PCs and our changing frame relay LAN as we finish the phase-out of serial communications in favor of IP. Other jobs include running core banking banking software daily ops and maintenance.

About
Fascinated by electrics and electronics since childhood, I was destined for a career in technology. After more than two decades my passion is two-pronged as as I 1) leverage a mature technology team to pursue the application of technology to accommodate and enhance business needs and solutions, and 2) grow the information and cybersecurity practice into one befitting enterprise class. Also a partner in a family business, I enjoy book work and accounting. Volunteer work, family time, running, SCUBA, reading, photography and my dog are among my non-work interests.
