I was the Director of the Securities and Exchange Commission's Fort Worth Regional Office, bearing responsibility for all aspects of the SEC’s enforcement and examination activities in Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, and Kansas, which included investigations in nearly every major area of the SEC’s enforcement program, such as public company disclosure and reporting; the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act; insider trading; cybersecurity; and investigations of major financial institutions, investment advisors, hedge funds, and broker-dealers.

I represented clients in all stages of federal regulatory investigation and prosecution, including managing agency and grand jury investigations; negotiating plea agreements, civil settlements, non-prosecution agreements, and dismissals; communicating with counsel, federal agents and law enforcement officers, and courts; preparing and arguing motions; interviewing and preparing witnesses; conducting courtroom activities including trials; drafting appellate briefs; and arguing cases in the Fifth Circuit. Also counseled corporate and individual clients regarding statutory and regulatory compliance and cybersecurity preparation and data breach response.

As Chief Counsel for the Risk and Regulatory Legal Group at Charles Schwab Corporation, I oversee litigation and arbitration; enforcement and regulatory proceedings; internal investigations; employment law; and risk governance. I previously served in senior leadership positions at both the U.S Securities and Exchange Commission, where I was the Director of the Fort Worth Regional Office, and the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Texas, where I was Deputy Criminal Chief and Attorney-in-Charge of the Plano office. Prior to joining Charles Schwab, I was a partner in the Investigations and White Collar practice group at Jones Day. I am also an adjunct professor teaching White Collar Criminal Law at SMU's Dedman School of Law.
