• My primary role is engineering ownership of Advocate Aurora’s application delivery platforms. This includes F5 BigIP, Citrix NetScaler, Infoblox DNS, Akamai DNS, AppViewX, and integrations with various other platforms.
• Prior to the merger of Advocate and Aurora I was also co-lead security engineer. This role was responsible for all firewalls, VPN infrastructure (IPSec and SSL), web filtering, IPS, and web-based remote access to on-premise applications.
• Most common day-to-day tasks were creating load-balancing configuration and managing firewall policy.
• Major projects accomplished in these roles outside of day-to-day items included :
- Migration from F5 BigIP v10 EOL appliances to current versions utilizing F5 vCMP (virtualization)
- Stabilization of F5 BigIP configuration to provide solid load-balancing support for Epic (electronic medical records platform)
- Splitting Check Point VSX to physically separate firewalls for performance improvement. All utilized NGFW features.
- Removal/replacement of Check Point firewalls with Palo Alto and configuration of Panorama, threat prevention features, and User-ID integration.
- Deployment of Duo Security for 2FA across the enterprise for all remote access methods.
- Built net new F5, Check Point, Palo Alto, and Citrix NetScaler deployments for migration to new Data Center.
- Replaced/redesigned external DNS platform to enhance DNS security
• In this role I also contribute to architecture/strategy discussions regarding network and security topology which have led to major gains in Advocate Aurora’s security posture, and in the efficiency and resiliency of our environment.
