Position Overview
We are seeking a Chief Technology Officer (CTO) to join our founding team as a part-owner. This is an unpaid, equity-based role from day one — you will be added to our LLC’s ownership structure and share in profits once the company becomes financially successful.
As CTO, you will lead all aspects of technology development at PolitiForum, from the build and launch of our main site to scaling PolitiPolls into a robust, secure, and user-friendly platform. You will set the technology vision, oversee architecture and infrastructure, and ensure compliance with data security, privacy, and relevant regulatory standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee development and technical direction for the PolitiForum site (XenForo) and PolitiPolls platform.
- Lead technology strategy, including infrastructure, integrations, and scalability.
- Ensure compliance with security, privacy, and regulatory frameworks (e.g., SOC 2, GDPR, CCPA, data protection best practices).
- Collaborate with the COO and CMO to align technical priorities with operational and marketing goals.
- Manage and mentor technical team members or contractors as the team grows.
- Evaluate and implement tools to improve company operations (Slack integrations, project management, etc.).
- Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues quickly and effectively.
Qualifications
- Strong background in software development, web applications, or IT infrastructure.
- Experience leading technical projects or teams (startup experience a plus).
- Knowledge of compliance frameworks and security best practices (SOC 2, GDPR, CCPA, data security, and related).
- Ability to build and scale systems with limited resources.
- Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work independently.
- Passion for using technology to support civic engagement and discourse.
