Systems Administrator V
Performs advanced (senior-level) computer systems administration work that involves troubleshooting and solving complex problems with IT systems, automating processes using scripting languages, creating procedures, forecasting resource needs, improving and updating existing IT systems, and designing and implementing new IT systems. The Systems Administrator reports to the ITS Operations Manager and works within the Information Technology Division. This position performs IT support work within the Texas Department of Insurance (TDI) Agency. Works under minimal supervision with considerable latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.
This Position
This position is an individual contributor role, with considerable latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment. Occasional overtime and/or a flexible schedule may be required as needed to meet required deadlines.
Performs the work of installation, maintenance and operation of enterprise-wide complex server and workstation infrastructure support items.This includes: Windows servers, Azure/Entra ID, Active Directory, Group Policy, Access management, Linux, and network related to the above systems
Collaborates with management to ensure business continuity goals are met, including those for succession management.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
This position requires:
Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with CIS, MIS or related experience.
At least four years of systems administration experience within an enterprise IT environment.Examples of relevant experience include Windows Server, Active Directory, Azure/Entra ID, Exchange Online, M365, Networking, PowerShell, Security, and SharePoint.
Regular work attendance.
Education and experience relevant to position requirements may be substituted for one another on a year-for-year basis.
Preferences For This Position Include
Knowledge and experience in all Windows Server roles including, but not limited to: AD Certificate Services, AD Domain Services, AD Federation Services, AD Lightweight Directory Services, AD Rights Management Services, DHCP Server, DNS Server, File and Storage Services, Print and Document Services, Remote Access, Remote Desktop Services, Web Server IIS, Windows Server Update Services.
Server applications Internet Information Services (IIS) and Web Sites.
Digital Certs, Certificate Authority (CA) Management.
Server Administrator and Patching.
Group Policy (GPMC) and GPOs.
Microsoft Server Certificate Administrator (MSCA).
M365 certification.
This Position Requires Demonstrated Knowledge Of
State laws, rules, procedures, and regulations relevant to job requirements.
Server Administration: Administers and maintains an enterprise IT environment, consisting primarily of Microsoft Servers in Private Data Center, Government Cloud Azure and AWS.
Cloud Administration: Configures and manages Microsoft 365 and other Government cloud platform environments to meet organizational needs. Creates and implements strategies and plans to migrate on-premise data and systems to the cloud.
Customer Service: Ensures that all customers tickets opened in Service Desk are resolved and closed in a timely manner, based upon set service-level agreements.
Project Work: Works to complete IT projects as assigned by the supervisor. Work should be completed within the agreed-upon timeline to ensure projects stay on track and meet delivery due dates.
This Position Requires Demonstrated Skill In
Problem solving and critical thinking.
Using Microsoft Office software applications, including Word, Excel, Outlook, and SharePoint.
Using personal computers sufficient to enter and extract data from related systems and programs such as Centralized Accounting Payroll and Personnel (CAPPS) and other systems required to perform the job.
