CHOMP is building the internet’s context engine.
Over the last 20 years, digital media stripped away something crucial: context. We lost not just facts, but the circumstances behind them; and how people honestly think about them. The result is isolation: echo chambers, silos, and a widening gap between perception and reality.
CHOMP is the next evolution of social media: a place where content is created, verified, and contextualized through a new kind of market - one purpose built for questions with subjective outcomes. Our thesis is simple: with the right market design, media can be more engaging, more honest, and more accurate.
With our v1, we:
- got 50k users to place over 2 million bets on answers to questions
- got 500 users to ask 2500 questions
- asked 9000+ of our own curated questions
- 2 users with > 365-day-streaks, 20+ users with >100-day-streaks
- raised a total of $3.6M (most recently closed a $2.5M seed round led by BlueYard Capital and JSquare)
We’re currently looking for the right CTO to both contribute to that vision, and help bring it to the next, significantly larger cohort of users.
Who we are:
A small, elite team of researchers, engineers, operators, creators, and designers taking a massive swing on trying to change the world. Ideologists who care deeply about the social externalities of where technology is headed, and ensuring they are as positive as possible.
Who you are:
- A “we’ll figure it out” person - you know you don’t necessarily have all the answers; but know that you will always be able find it if given the chance
- A shipper - you love to bring shit to life, and build ideas because you want to see what it might look like, not just because we decided to.
- An obsessive communicator - you know that it is your responsibility to ensure everyone understands how things work, and make it a top priority to ensure that everyone is on the same page. If you have one job: it’s to translate between code and natural language
- An architect - a well designed system isn’t just something you know how to make - it’s something that tickles that ineffable part of your brain, maybe it even gives you a sense of relief when you find the right solution
- A product owner - you naturally feel responsible for the success of the product and take ownership of making the best version possible, and will let nothing stop you from doing that
- Willing to challenge anything you think is wrong for the sake of ensuring we get it right, no matter what - there is no power you won’t speak truth to
- Strong opinions, loosely held - you’re willing to challenge anything, but also able to see when you’re wrong and quickly pivot
- Willing to be wrong and take responsibility - you know mistakes are only mistakes when made twice. Otherwise they’re lessons.
- Ideologically motivated - you want to build something that has a net positive impact on the world and society as a whole; not just your bank account, social status, or future job prospects
- A technologist through and through - you spend time researching and learning about new technologies, and understanding where and when they might be useful, just in case we ever end up in a situation where one may come in handy
What you’ll be doing:
- Building & managing a small, agile team of elite engineers
- Architecting, building, maintaining, and improving CHOMP’s protocol infrastructure, API, and app client(s)
- CHOMP currently uses a stack of TypeScript, React/NextJS, Node/Hono, Postgres, Prisma, Rust, Python, and Solana, running mostly on Railway and Neon.
- Working with dev shops & other developers to support our own internal & others’ external buildouts.
What you’ll be getting:
- A very favorable equity & token compensation package
- Ownership of the entire end to end tech stack
- A chance to work with and design novel, cutting edge technology
- A chance to be part of and build an elite team of people singly focused on a common goal: make things suck less & have fun while doing it
