The IT Network Technician provides practical, timely, and complete Information Technology (IT) support for the internal administrative systems and networks for the Tarrant County 9-1-1 District. This position assists in the installation and maintenance of internal Information Technology systems and provides support to internal District employees when they encounter a technology issue. This includes designing, configuring, troubleshooting, and maintaining the local and wide area networks, including routers, firewalls, switches, and application servers. The IT Network Technician also assists with information security and cybersecurity analysis work involving planning, implementing, and monitoring security measures to protect District systems and infrastructure.
This person also assists with long-term planning and research for administrative network and IT solutions. Additional responsibilities could include working with and directing external contractors and vendors. This individual is available 24/7 for critical technology support and system problem resolution. Hours of work must be flexible to accommodate staff availability and project needs.
Examples of Duties- Supports administrative IT systems, including remote sites, with minimal service disruption to employees. This includes all IT systems and technology solutions, such as servers, workstations, laptops, networking, copiers, printers, AV technology, and all software. Researches, acquires, installs, configures, updates, conducts inventories, and manages all hardware, software, operating systems, and applications.
- Installs, racks, and stacks equipment into appropriate facilities and equipment areas. Apply KVM support, cable management, grounding, etc.
- Supports District employees to triage quickly and resolves technology issues: server, workstation, or laptop, Email/SPAM, Virus/Malware, Internet access, network access, printing, application issues, or other systems as required to minimize downtime.
- Monitors and analyzes server event logs and cybersecurity alerts from cybersecurity tools, network devices, and information systems.
- Configures and monitors VPN functionality to support remote work for District staff.
- Assists with centralized patch management for pushing Microsoft, 3rd party updates, and security patches to all District-provided devices, whether onsite or remote.
- Maintains remote backup site technical support (servers, laptops, PDUs, phones, etc.).
- Assists with the management of hardware and software inventory life-cycle, support contracts, licenses, and warranty information used to refresh systems and auction systems at the end of life.
- Assists with the management and documentation of user access and permission levels. Creates, maintains, and manages all internal network documentation.
- Coordinates maintenance with staff to minimize service disruptions. This includes the installation, upgrade, modification, or patching of all hardware, firmware, and software during off-hours maintenance windows.
- Support hardware build-out and the initial software installation and configuration of specialized applications using standard image templates.
- Works with the Technical team to develop training and instruction for staff on new systems and software. Provides notification and support for all system and process changes.
- Assists with the management of data recovery systems, including data backup, restoration, and replication of mission-critical data to remote systems: develops and tests data recovery and critical server failover procedures.
- Supports technical support resources as needed and interfaces with vendors coming onsite to resolve issues with their systems/solutions.
- Assists with team assignments to include field testing, documentation, and training.
- Passes and maintains background security clearance.
- Performs other job duties as assigned.

Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Systems, or related field, or the equivalent in training and experience. Network Administration, MS Windows Administration, LAN management, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
- Prefer five years’ experience in the IT-related field.
- Industry certifications such as CompTIA, and certification in Microsoft 365 are desirable,
- Experience with the following vendor systems and technology solutions is highly desirable:
- Dell servers, workstations, laptops, and Android mobility devices
- Microsoft Windows Server, Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, CA, and Group Policy
- Backup and Recovery solution
- VPN setup and support
- VMWare
