Associate Systems Administrator - Hosting & Storage
Remote, 12 month Contract
Overview:
The Associate Hosting & Storage Engineer will support infrastructure operations by performing daily and weekly tasks to ensure secure, efficient, and uninterrupted server and equipment performance. This role is ideal for someone with a systems administration background who thrives in a high-pressure, mission-critical environment and is eager to contribute to modernization and operational excellence.
Key Responsibilities:
- Serve as an initial technical resource to resolve infrastructure issues.
- Assist in deploying, maintaining, and managing servers and related infrastructure.
- Maintain centralized documentation (hardware/software licensing, SOPs, diagrams).
- Support systems throughout their lifecycle, including patching and configuration.
- Follow escalation procedures and document work in incident/request tracking tools.
- Troubleshoot and diagnose system problems; recommend and implement solutions.
- Use change control processes for environment maintenance.
- Maintain system inventory using centralized tools.
- Participate in root cause analysis and post-failure reviews.
- Evaluate and improve infrastructure processes and procedures.
- Perform system configuration, backups, and network optimization.
- Respond to support requests and maintain accurate documentation.
- Support technology assessments and ensure compliance with security standards.
- Assess risks associated with IT environment changes.
- Participate in on-call rotation and assist with other duties as needed.
Required Qualifications:
- 3+ years of experience in Network Technology Support or Systems Administration.
- Experience troubleshooting complex technical issues.
- Strong analytical and logical thinking skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
- Comfortable in high-pressure, mission-critical environments.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
- Understanding of IT operations and system dependencies.
- Willingness to participate in on-call rotation.
- Equivalent combination of education, experience, or military background considered.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Associate’s Degree or higher in Computer Science, MIS, or related field.
- Experience with Windows Server (2016/2019/2022), Active Directory, and Networking.
- Familiarity with Group Policies, IIS, Terminal Services, VMware, Azure, and VDI.
- Experience with backup technologies and virtual environments.
- Knowledge of software installation and upgrade procedures.
- Experience with automation tools (e.g., SCCM, Orchestrator).
- Understanding of Infrastructure as Code principles.
- Networking knowledge: TCP/IP, LAN/WAN.
- Certifications: Microsoft, Cisco, VMware, ITIL, or other ITSM frameworks.
- DOD/VA/Military experience or clearances.
- National Career Readiness Certificate.
